BioI am the Director of Strategy, and Competitive Intelligence at General Dynamics – Advanced Information Systems, responsible for creating and managing an independent market forecasting and competitive intelligence competency and for developing and implementing a GDAIS strategic planning, investment and business development process by providing actionable intelligence in the competitor, alliance and acquisition, government, technology, and economic arenas to support the company leadership in strategic planning, business development, and investment decisions.
My most recent position was as director, Strategic Business Planning and Public Policy with Lucent Technologies/OFS Fitel, a leading global designer and manufacturer of optical fiber, optical connectivity and specialty photonics. Among my responsibilities with Lucent/OFS were forecasting demand, providing competitive intelligence and market positioning, assessing the direction of technologies and markets to guide R&D and product development, developing and promoting the Public Policy position at the FCC and Congress, and developing quantitatively and qualitatively sound business cases.
My career in research and market analysis includes positions with a number of small and large companies and government agencies, including the White House (National Space Council), the U.S. Department of Commerce and Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, the RAND Corporation, Donnelly Optics Corporation, the Eaton Corporation as well as Renaissance Game Designs and Paragon Space Development Corporation, both of which he cofounded.
I received my undergraduate education at the University of Chicago; my Master's training in Science, Technology and Public Policy at the George Washington University; and my Doctoral training in Policy Analysis from the RAND Graduate School at the RAND Corporation, and authored or co-authored numerous articles (including the ground-breaking 1995 RAND Nanotechnology study which “catalyzed the field” of Nanotechnology), white papers and studies and been involved with numerous Trade Associations, public policy debates, and industry and financial analysts while at RAND, Lucent Technologies, and my other positions.
